Software
What this page is about:
This page is designed for two purposes.
- To provide information on the different games we tend to play
- To provide general information for useful (free) programs that can help the LAN party go smoothly.
We will generally have the latest patches already downloaded and available on the LAN, but it will speed things up if you have these games installed and patched upon arrival.
Also, this page will probably not be updated very often, as such I have provided links to the official locations for patches where I can find them. While this page will not be updated on a regular bases, the games are, even if an older version is listed here, we will probably be using the new version at the LAN party.
The Games
While we have played other games in the past, and I might have accidently omitted a couple games from the following list, these are the games we are most likely to play at future LAN parties.
-
Counter Strike: Source
- Provided through steam, so the version will be whatever version is latest.
- This is one of our most played games, none of us are great at it which makes it fun.
- Available Here
-
Battlefield 2
- Latest Version: 1.41
- Patch can be found here
- This used to be our second most played game, but TF2 and CoD4 have taken up some ground from it.
-
Team Fortress 2
- This game is also provided through steam and therefore will remain up to date.
- The latest addition to our games, we have yet to play it at a full LAN party but I am looking forward to it.
- We will probably be playing some custom maps, these will be provided at the LAN party.
- Available Here
-
Call of Duty 4
- Latest Version: 1.7
- Patch can be found here
-
Command and Conqueror - RA3
- We don't really play much RTS, since they eat up time like no other
- Patch can be found here
Favorite Freeware
What follows is a list of programs that we feel will help get your computer ready for the LAN party. They are also just good programs to have around in a pinch. This section is also still under construction.
-
Anti-virus
- While I cant really say free anti-virus software is amazing, it is better than nothing.
- AVG Free
-
Registry Cleaner(s)
- As you use your computer and install / uninstall programs, edits are made to your registry. Over time those edits build up and conflicts emerge. These conflicts can lead to all sorts of issues.
- CCLeaner - One of my favorites, I use it on a regular basis to clean up my registry. It does not catch everything but it does a good job.
- Eusing Free Registry Cleaner - On occasion where I have had a problem that CCleaner did not catch, I use Eusing to find the problem.
-
Disk Image readers
- Daemon Tools - Can load / read disk images.
